My English language pen name is Amanda Love and I use this pen name because my birth name is Pornthip Pichaironnarongsongkram. This long Thai family name does not fit on any government form or book jacket, I can assure you. My family calls me “Tip” so that is even easier. Ok, let me explain because Thai names have specific meanings and sound very funny to English speakers! 
 “Pornthip” is name given to Thai girls and it means “blessings” to celebrate the arrival of a beautiful baby girl (it has nothing to do with “porn”!). My family name is a Chinese-Thai name and is just as difficult to spell out in Thai as it is in English. Most Thai people have these complicated names and so we call each other by our nicknames. When I got married I changed my name to my husband’s much easier family name of Love.
