    Anna Castelli Ferrieri (6 August - 22 June ) was an Italian architect and industrial designer. She is most known for her influence in the use of plastics as a mainstream design material and her cofounding of Kartell, an Italian contemporary furniture company.

    Early life and education

    Ferrieri was born on 6 August in Milan, Italy.[1] She was one of the first women to study at Milan Polytechnic University, from which she graduated in with a degree in architecture.[1] During her studies, Ferrieri was influenced by Italian Rationalist architect Franco Albini,[2][3] whose work and theory focused on reduction, function, and rigorous beauty.[1] She was also influenced by the simplicity and functionality championed by the Bauhaus school of art, architecture, and design in Germany.[4]

    Anna Castelli Ferrieri was an Italian architect and industrial designer, born in Milan in She trained at Milan Polytechnic Institute from until and after graduating went on to work at the office of Franco Albini. In she founded her own design studio and became editor-in-chief of Casabella, an architecture magazine and correspondent from Italy for the English periodical Architectural Design. Ferrieri began to gain attention for her reinterpretation of ordinary elements, adding a creative touch to an array of spaces.

    Ferrieri married Giulio Castelli, founder of Kartell, and in she began working for the brand as a consultant after designing their headquarters. As Design Director, Castelli Ferrieri was instrumental in bringing designers of the highest calibre to work for Kartell, Ferrieri is most well known for her Componibili storage units.

    She has also taught at numerous establishments, including Milan Polytechnic from to and the Domus Academy from to Winner of three Compasso d'Oro awards, Anna Castelli Ferrieri is one of those great names in design that will be remembered for years to come.
