Bernhardt has sold more than 10 million books in the United States and around the world. He has been nominated for the Oklahoma Book Award 17 times in three categories (Fiction, Poetry, and Young Adult) and has won twice, in and In he received the Southern Writers Guild's Gold Medal Award.
