Having started his career wrestlingon the carnival circuit in England, Matthews moved on to wrestle around the world in countries such as Germany and South Africa, before being signed by World Championship Wrestling in 1993. In 2000, after leaving WCW, Matthews joined the World Wrestling Federation(WWF) (later World Wrestling Entertainment), where he became commissioner. In 2008 he also served as General Manager of Raw while at the same time being the 2008 King of the Ring.
